collections & deliveries
Sorted Logistics is a Christchurch based logistics company specialising in warehousing and transportation of goods. Each day, Sorted drivers travel around the city transporting goods for many different customers and their various collection and delivery points.
To keep up with their growth, Sorted were on the look out for a digital solution that could replace their existing paper based process. They searched for an off-the-shelf product, but soon discovered that they would require a custom solution to meet their needs.
So, Sorted tasked us with the design and development of a tablet app that could facilitate their specialised process.
Designed Specifically for Sorted
Before starting on the app designs, we conducted an in-depth observation by accompanying a Sorted driver on their daily collections and deliveries. Spending a day in their shoes meant we could better understand the logistical process and gain a driver’s perspective that we could apply to our designs.
With our new-found understanding of the process, we created low fidelity wireframes to outline the user flow and explore how drivers would manage their deliveries. Once validated with Sorted, we generated high fidelity designs ready for development.
Streamlining Processes with Digitisation
Digitising their process had a huge impact on Sorted’s efficiency. Previously, drivers would be out completing deliveries all day before returning with their paper sheets full of signatures. With a connected app, instant proof of delivery meant Sorted could invoice customers right away.
The app also improved driver workflows. Now, they could easily manage multiple jobs in the app without shuffling through handfuls of paper. Drivers being able to assign jobs as “started” also gave Sorted better visibility into which jobs were currently in progress.
The final solution future-proofed Sorted’s delivery processes and enhanced productivity. Sorted now have a great foundation to expand the current app and are exploring other digitisation initiatives with us.
